Move furniture and valuables to the highest floor of the property or the attic
Safeguard important documents, valuables, or medical supplies by placing them in a waterproof container
If time permits, create a barrier with sandbags where floodwaters are likely to rise
Turn off any propane tanks
If instructed by local authorities, turn off utilities
Bring outdoor items like furniture, toys, or trash cans indoors
Unplug small appliances to reduce any damage caused by power surges
Take photographs of all personal items to make things easier should you need to file a claim with your renter's insurance
After a flood
Only return home when told by local officials that it's safe to do so
Do not wade in floodwater
